Position Summary
JOB SUMMARY:
Machinist / Manufacturing engineer will use their honed skills to fabricate high-quality parts from a print, drawing, existing part, or an idea. The incumbent will repair, rebuild, types, sizes, and shapes of jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies, or overhaul all production and service equipment in the facility and repair or manufacture machine parts. Assemble and try out complex tools and dies on manufacturing equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Reads and interprets blueprints or works from verbal or written instructions or from the part to be copied or fitted.
- Plans the setup and operation of all machine shop tools, considering types of material, tolerances, cutting tools, coolants, lubricants, and machine tool feeds and speeds.
- Ability to hold tight tolerances.
- Determines specifications for inspection of work, using precision measuring and gauging tools, performing required inspection before, during, and after machining.
- Performs hand operations in producing jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies. Uses hand tools of the trade.
- Fits and assembles jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies. Sets up, runs off, and tests dies to produce a product to specifications, tracing die difficulties to their source and correcting same.
- Take concepts from design to prototype and to production.
- Collaborates in Machine design and manufacturing.
- Uses a full range of precision measuring and gauging tools to perform an inspection before the start of the job.
- Performs repair, rebuilding, or overhaul work of manufacturing or service equipment from blueprints, company manufacturing manuals, and written or verbal instructions.
- Shuts down and start-up equipment in line with company safety procedures and OSHA lockout-tag-out regulations for equipment under power.
- Makes repair parts if not commercially available.
- Setup and operate typical machine shop machine tools, Mills, Lathes, Surface Grinders, Band Saws, Etc.. Producing parts to tolerances and company specifications. Uses typical machinist’s hand tools.
- Sets up and test production equipment under power, testing for mechanical difficulties, tracing to their sources, and correction problems.
- Setup and program CNC-VMC & Lathe (Master-Cam and G-code knowledge)
- Perform additional duties as required by supervisor
Requirements
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Five or more years of experience as a fully qualified machinist.
- Additional experience in a tool and die preferred.
- Requires a very high degree of precision and control in work where damage could be high and where muscular control and delicate touch are required to prevent injury to self and others when operating machine tools.
- Close attention and care is required to prevent damage to complex machine tools or costly materials.
- Ability to read blueprints and specifications
- Ability to produce precision work
- Experienced in the use of a full line of inspection and measuring equipment.
- Ability to work with other professionals as a team to expedite a project.
- Physical ability to do work requiring frequent bending and stooping.
- Physical strength to lift and carry 50 pounds frequently.
- Visual acuity (corrected) to read directions and prints and to inspect machined parts closely to ensure that they meet specifications.
